Time For Some Fun In The Sun With Baby? 3 Tips To Keep Your Little One Safe In The Sun

by Julia Gregory

Summer is here. As the temperatures rise, you want to make sure that your kids are kept safe out in the sun. While it's fun to get outside for some family time during the summer, it's important to remember that too much sun can be bad for your little ones. Here are three helpful tips that will keep your little ones safe while they're out in the sun this summer.

Keep Them Hydrated

While you're out and about with your little ones this summer, it's important to remember that they're going to need lots of water. Proper hydration is key to staying healthy during those hot summer days. Depending on the ages of your little ones, you should have plenty of baby bottles, sippee cups, and water bottles on hand for them. Water bottles can be frozen so that they thaw throughout the day. Baby bottles and sippee cups can be kept cool by placing a few ice cubes in them. The ice will melt but the water will stay refreshingly cool for your kids.

Load Up on the Sunscreen

If you and your kids are going to be out in the sun, don't forget to load up on the sunscreen. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen to your kids before you leave for the day. Add a fresh application several times throughout the day, especially after they've been in the water, or have sweated a lot. Sweating and swimming can wash the sunscreen away. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children should use a sunscreen with an SPF level of at least 15.

Cover Those Noggins

When your little one is out in the sun, it's face, neck and head are absorbing the bulk of the heat. Protect your little one's sensitive skin by making sure they're wearing a hat whenever they go outside. This is particularly important if they're going to be in direct sunlight. For maximum protection choose a wide-brimmed hat for them. You can tell a hat is providing enough protection if it creates shade on your little one's face and neck.

Too much sun can harm your baby. If you're going to be outside with your little one this summer, be sure you're prepared with proper sun protection. Use the tips provided here to keep your baby safe in the sun. For more tips on how to keep your little one safe this summer, be sure to speak to your child's doctor.

About Me

Assisted Living: Dealing With Everyone's Emotions

The decision to move one of my parents into assisted living was one of the most difficult I have ever made. I had extreme feelings of guilt that led to me being at the facility with my parent practically around the clock. It took a few months before I realized that I could not let my own life fall apart from the guilt I was feeling. I also learned that my parent was fine without me constantly hovering around. Since that time, I have had several friends express similar feelings of guilt. I started this blog to help others in the same situation understand not only their feelings about assisted living, but those of their parents.
