Complementary Medicine Treatments For IBS

by Julia Gregory

When you suffer from digestive issues such as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), you may wonder what you can do to improve your situation and get to feeling better and healthier on a regular basis. While conventional medicine offers several options in the form of prescription medications, it may not be enough to keep you feeling comfortable as much as you would like. In addition to prescription medications, you can also use complementary treatments available through alternative medicine. Get to know some of these alternative medicine treatments and give them a try to improve your IBS symptoms and help you feel less gastrointestinal discomfort on a regular daily basis.

Chiropractic Care

Many people do not think about going to the chiropractor other than for back or neck pain. However, chiropractic care can be useful for a wide variety of ailments and illnesses. The idea behind chiropractic care is that when there are problems with the alignment of the spine (misalignments), the nerves that run along the spinal column can become obstructed, pinched, or otherwise prevented from being able to transmit messages between the brain and the rest of the body.

When the nerves cannot carry communications between the body and the brain, the organs in the body may not get the nutrients and immune system help and response that they need to be able to function properly.  Chiropractors can help address these issues by performing spinal manipulations to get the spinal column back in proper alignment. Once the spine is back in alignment, the nerves are free to carry out their communications so that your body can respond to health issues and discomfort swiftly. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient tradition that stems from what is modern-day China. This alternative medicine practice involves the use of tiny needles inserted into specific points on the body to help treat different health issues and restore balance in the body.

The idea behind acupuncture is that they human body has an underlying system of energy flowing all throughout the body. In order to remain healthy, the energies must all be in balance and free to flow unobstructed. However, if a person is unhealthy, they usually have an area of energy that is blocked causing the whole body to be out of balance. The tiny needles that are used in acupuncture are meant to help trigger the flow of energy and restore balance in the body.

In the case of IBS, many of these acupuncture points are located along the arms and legs, particularly on the lateral side of a person's arms and legs. These points on the limbs are associated with the intestines and the stomach, and therefore can trigger the flow of energy and nutrients to those parts of the body.

Now that you know a few of the complementary treatment options for your IBS, you can incorporate them into your treatment program and begin to feel better as soon as possible.

About Me

Assisted Living: Dealing With Everyone's Emotions

The decision to move one of my parents into assisted living was one of the most difficult I have ever made. I had extreme feelings of guilt that led to me being at the facility with my parent practically around the clock. It took a few months before I realized that I could not let my own life fall apart from the guilt I was feeling. I also learned that my parent was fine without me constantly hovering around. Since that time, I have had several friends express similar feelings of guilt. I started this blog to help others in the same situation understand not only their feelings about assisted living, but those of their parents.
