Tis The Season For Dental Problems: 3 Ways Your Dentist Can Help With Holiday Tooth Woes

by Julia Gregory

If the holiday weekend left you with serious dental problems, it's time to talk to your cosmetic dentist. Your dentist will be able to repair a myriad of dental problems that you and your family might have experienced while you were busy having fun with friends and family. If you, or your family, have suffered any of the following dental troubles during the holidays, contact a cosmetic dentist as soon as possible.

Stains

Red wine, coffee and tea can wreak havoc on your teeth. If the holidays left you with less-than-white teeth, it's time to have them professionally whitened. Minor stains can be removed using bleaching gel, or whitening strips that your dentist can provide you with. If you have more significant stains, your dentist can remove them using in-office laser whitening treatments. Sit down with your dentist to determine which whitening treatment will work best for you.

Chips or Cracks

If roughhousing with the cousins resulted in some chipped or cracked teeth for your kids, it's time to for a visit to the cosmetic dentist. Minor chips and cracks can be repaired using composite bonding material. Once the bonding material is in place, you won't be able to tell that your kids teeth were ever damaged. For severe cracks, or chips that have removed a major portion of the tooth, it might be necessary to repair the damage with a porcelain veneer.

With veneers, a thin piece of porcelain is placed over the tooth, which provides it with a strong, protective surface. Porcelain veneers are designed to look just like the surface of a real tooth. It's important to note that if your child suffers a chipped tooth, you should try to bring the chipped portion to the dentist with you. In some cases, the dentist will be able to reattach the broken portion using dental composite.

Missing Teeth

If the family game of football left you missing a tooth, there are a couple of steps you can take. First, if it just happened, see if you can find the tooth. If you can, carefully rinse it off with clear water and place it in a container filled with either milk or water. Carefully bite down on gauze to stop the bleeding. Get yourself, and the tooth, to the nearest dentist. If the root is still intact, your dentist will be able to set it back into the socket to prevent permanent tooth loss. If you couldn't locate the tooth, or too much time has passed, you'll still need to see your dentist. They can replace the missing tooth with a dental implant.

Holidays with the family can leave you with lasting memories. They can also leave you with dental problems. If you, or your kids came home with stained or damaged teeth, visit a service such as http://www.davidjacksondds.com as soon as you can.

About Me

Assisted Living: Dealing With Everyone's Emotions

The decision to move one of my parents into assisted living was one of the most difficult I have ever made. I had extreme feelings of guilt that led to me being at the facility with my parent practically around the clock. It took a few months before I realized that I could not let my own life fall apart from the guilt I was feeling. I also learned that my parent was fine without me constantly hovering around. Since that time, I have had several friends express similar feelings of guilt. I started this blog to help others in the same situation understand not only their feelings about assisted living, but those of their parents.
