Women's Health: 3 Questions You May Feel Too Mortified To Ask

by Julia Gregory

When it comes time to visit the gynecologist for the first time or you need to talk to someone about the changes that your body is going through, it can be really awkward and embarrassing. However, it is important that you talk to someone about these things so that you understand what it is going on with your body in order to keep yourself healthy and safe. Here are the answers to a few of the questions that you may have to help ease your load:

During oral sex, how do you make sure not to taste or smell bad?

Oral sex is a very intimate experience, and it can be difficult know what your partner's thinking. In order to know what he or she is thinking, you have to ask them. As a general rule, women are more sensitive to the smell of their own vagina than someone else is. So, what you may think smells bad may not even actually exist. However, if you want to be certain that there is no funky smells, there is something you can do to help prevent the overgrowth of bacteria: help you vagina get plenty of air by wearing loose bottoms and cotton panties.

Should you douche?

If you have heard someone else talk about douching on a regular basis and you are curious as to whether you should do, it is recommended by physicians that you do not do this. While it is something that used to be done regularly by women years ago, research now shows that it can lead to numerous health issues for women, including vaginal infections, STIs and even difficulty conceiving. Instead of douching, simply shower on a regular basis and allow your vagina to cleanse itself.

How do you know whether the discharge that your vagina is producing is normal or abnormal?

The discharge that your vagina produces on a daily basis is very beneficial, as it helps to clean your vagina and prevent infection from occurring. As a general rule, according to WebMD, it will be a clear or a milky-white color, and the amount will vary, depending on the time of the month. The time to become alarmed is if the discharge is accompanied by vaginal burning or itching or if the discharge changes consistency, color or smell, as this is signs of an infection. Depending on all the symptoms and the type of discharge, it could be something as simple as a yeast infection, or it could be something more serious like an STI or cervical cancer.

For all of your other questions, make sure to ask your gynecologist. Find someone who makes you feel comfortable so that you can get the answers to the questions that you need to ask. Remember, gynecologists do this for a living and deal with this stuff day in and day out.

About Me

Assisted Living: Dealing With Everyone's Emotions

The decision to move one of my parents into assisted living was one of the most difficult I have ever made. I had extreme feelings of guilt that led to me being at the facility with my parent practically around the clock. It took a few months before I realized that I could not let my own life fall apart from the guilt I was feeling. I also learned that my parent was fine without me constantly hovering around. Since that time, I have had several friends express similar feelings of guilt. I started this blog to help others in the same situation understand not only their feelings about assisted living, but those of their parents.
